This month's Digital Oasis event is designed to support us with locating, articulating, and getting curious about our desires as a key to experiencing wellBEing. Check out this registration link for more details and here’s a clip with a little backstory on the offering.
I look forward to seeing those of you who can join us!
Doc Zee is excited to work with the BRIC Intergenerational Community Arts Council (ICAC) to develop an immersive art and performance exhibit centering the healing wisdom of Brooklyn. Stay tuned for updates and learn more about BRIC and the amazing ICAC team here.
We are excited to continue the fun we started at our Jan. 29th Instagram Live focused on the work of Black Feminist Neuroscientist Linzie Taylor. Linzie will join us and facilitate a Digital Oasis experience that helps us learn more about being in relationship with the parts of our brain that play a big role in healing and wellBEing. Bring some paper and something to write with (and some string if you have it) to get the most out the experience! No stress if not though. You can still participate without. Click here to register.
We had a great time with folks in the Black WellBEing Book Club, so we wanted to expand to movies and tv! In February, we will host our very first Black WellBEing Movie Club experience (think book club but for movies/tv shows)!
How it works: 1) Register here. 2) Watch the movie on your own. 3) Join us on 2/23/25 at 5pm EST where we will chat and play games focused on the film.
This month's movie is The Piano Lesson!
On Thursday, February 13th at 2pm EST, we will go Live on Instagram with Emmy award winning, multimedia artist Vince Ballard. We plan to have a good time talking about art & Black healing before Vince guides us in an activity.

There's a lot going on in the external world. What happens on the inside is also really important during these times. On January 29th at 2pm EST Dr. Zuleka will be in conversation with Black Feminist Neuroscientist Linzie Taylor talking about The Brain & Black WellBEing. Linzie's work "ensures that science integrates deeply personal understandings of the self" such that it "reflects a fuller version of who [Black people] are". Come hear Linzie share their journey and thoughts on the brain and Black wellBEing through a Black feminist lens…and in true CBW fashion, join in on a fun, interactive activity! TO WATCH: Click here to follow us on Instagram and then click our profile picture to join the Live event on 1/29/25 at 2pm EST.
Click here to register for Linzie's follow-up Digital Oasis Event on 2/20/25 at 7pm EST.

We wish you a 2025 that is full of whatever you intend it to be!

Healing is complex and courageous. Developing the courage to heal often hinges on how you perceive healing and on having some degree of belief in its value and attainability. Many mental health initiatives encourage Black people to heal. I believe it is also important to offer wellness spaces where Black people get to locate, examine, and explore what we hold in our consciousness about healing, in order to create a foundation from which we can powerfully choose our wellness activities. Check out this clip from my Brief & Brilliant talk from the Society for Social Research 2024 conference.
